Do you experience a lower conversion rate on your website? If you do, the most probable reason is due to your long-form. Therefore, you need to make your forms appear shorter and appealing to your visitors by splitting it into multiple pages. Breaking your forms influences user experience and engagement and, therefore, positively affecting the conversion rate. In this article, I will show you how to create a multi-step form for your WordPress website.

We can define multi-step form as a long-form divided into less intimidating and daunting shorter pages. The pages are all related to each other, aiming to accomplish a goal that would require users to fill a lot of information.

Commonly, multi-step forms are used on websites to make a contact form, enrollment forms, quiz form, eCommerce forms, take surveys etc. Here is the list:

  • Contact Forms
  • Quizzes or exams
  • Registration forms (Enrollment Forms)
  • eCommerce forms
  • Job application forms
  • Website signup forms
  • Medical in-take forms
  • School enrollment forms
  • Surveys (especially longer ones!)

Here are the primary reasons for building a multi-page form for your website:

  1. Reduce form abandonment – Long forms discourage your audience from completing filling the information you require. Therefore, most users leave your form, not filled. In contrast, users feel motivated after completing one page and moving to the next.
  2. Increased conversion – Users are more likely to complete filling your form and therefore increasing your chances to convert them to your leads and customers.
  3. Improved user experience – Long forms seems to be tiresome to the end-users and therefore discourages them from filling. Multi-step forms help end-users track their progress as they fill your form.
  4. Encourage focus – Multi-step form helps you group questions according to their relevance and therefore enhancing your focus on the most relevant information.
  5. Helps you understand your audience – Multi-step forms are used on the survey that can help you understand your prospects.
